Pachathuruthu (Green Island) Project

Restoring Biodiversity & Cultivating Ecological Harmony

Pachathuruthu is a flagship environmental conservation initiative implemented in close collaboration with the Local Self-Government Department (LSGD), the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), and the Nava Kerala Mission. The project focuses on creating dense, man-made micro-forests on vacant lands to preserve local biodiversity and combat climate change.

🏡 Model Green Haven at Leprosy Sanatorium

Established during the 2019–20 period at the Leprosy Sanatorium in Mavelikkara Thamarakulam, this location stands out as one of the finest green islands developed within the entire Bharanikavu Block.

Spanning over an area of 20 Cents, the project features a carefully protected ecosystem secured by a protective **bio-fence**. An active local organizing committee works alongside Thamarakulam Panchayat office bearers and officials to ensure continuous monitoring and growth.

Inclusive Social Welfare & Employment Guarantee

In a remarkable step toward social inclusion, job cards were issued directly to the residents of the Leprosy Sanatorium, formally incorporating them into the MGNREGS framework. A dedicated worker from the scheme handles daily maintenance, providing sustainable livelihoods while securing the green belt's health.
