Panchayat Level Tree Committee

A tree committee has been formed at the panchayat level to protect trees standing on public roads and public places and to prevent accidents caused by uprooting or breaking trees and their branches.

Tree committees have been formed at the Panchayat level as per the Circular No. 248/RC3/2016/Tasvabhava of the Local Self-Government Department dated 14.07.2017. Currently, the tree committee functions at the local level to avoid delays in cases where permission from the district-level tree committee is required for cutting trees and to take timely decisions in emergency situations.

Composition of the Committee

  • Panchayat President – ​​Chairman
  • Panchayat Secretary – Convener
  • Village Officer – Member
  • Forest Department Range Officer / Representative – Member
     

     

Main tasks

  • Check whether trees and branches in public areas pose a hazard.

  • Take necessary action regarding trees that pose a threat to the life and property of the public

  • Instruct owners to cut down endangered trees owned by private individuals.

  • In cases of non-compliance with the directive, take relevant legal action and recover the cost from the person concerned.

  • Ensure that the valuation of the trees being cut is carried out by the Forest Department.

  • Coordinate tree protection activities within the limits of the panchayat and ensure a safe environment.

The Panchayat-level Tree Committee is working with the aim of ensuring both public safety and environmental protection.
